The Weekly List | 31 May 2014

Another week down and another lovely weekend to enjoy (complete with this lovely little weekly reading list of course)! I don’t know what happened this week, but did it ever pass by in a flash! Monday saw the announcement of a new collaboration between Nanny Shecando and new nannying agency The Collective Kid. We’re working on an Australia-wide project, called Nothing But Nannies Breakfast’s, to encourage those in the in-home childcare profession to network and grow their connections, skills and passions. It’s something I’m very passionate about here on the blog, and in essence you could say that promoting the nanny industry through networking and partnerships is kind of the blog’s manifesto.

Monday was also my birthday, and so I shared 10 birthday party essentials to help you pull together a magical and memorable kids party in a flash. My birthday was a special day, I spent it at work with the kiddies as per any other day. Miss7 had insisted that I must not work on my birthday and that I should instead be pampered and looked after. She then realised that for her to be able to do that before she had to go off to school, to let me sit on the couch whilst she made me breakfast I’d need to arrive an hour earlier to work. Of course when it came to the actual day, she’d forgotten. So whilst I loved the sentiment, I think I would have preferred an extra hour in bed instead of arriving even earlier than usual to work.

As usual I’m behind of my lovely blog reading, and other related information from around the web. It seems to be a conundrum I just can’t get sorted at the moment. The dilemma between wanting to read all the material because it’s full of inspiring, education, motivational and shareable content that will help me in my own endeavours but also not having the time to dedicate towards it because of my own endeavours..

However, on that note, here’s a few gems from around the web this week in a neat little list to make it easy for you.

The Weekly List | 31 May 2014

31 May - 1 weekly list-31may

The Nanny; Sometimes Super

On being a nanny and loving it – every single day!

Naturally my days are challenging. It’s not all puzzles, board games and baking yummy healthy muffins (although these sure are fun). Often I find myself wearing many hats during my day-to-day duties, from pseudo mum and dad, to sole care-giver, to paramedic and doctor, to being the big sister and cool aunty. I also become the policeman and judge presiding over sibling arguments and rivalry, the homework tutor/sports coach/musical instrument teacher/language teacher, the personal taxi service, personal chef and general provider of amusement. After all of that, I’ve also got to remember to be “fun” whilst being the responsible voice of reason.

I bring an education to the table, a second language, stories from worldly travels and experiences and an organisational system built to run a family. Above all else, I strive to be creative, passionate and positive. I foster an “everything is possible” mentality.

I ensure that the children are happy and safe at all times whilst facilitating every opportunity for self-growth and adventure. I like to keep us active and engaged. Whether that be with arts and craft activities, through learning games and by getting messy in the kitchen, we can always find the magic.

super nannyWe also love getting out and about to the Sydney aquarium, the zoo, the local parks, swimming pools and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time.

I love that the kids just have so much energy. Their vibrant personality and tenacity mean that I’m constantly kept on my toes. They also mean that my warm and caring personality, is in good company. There’s always plenty of love to go around. It’s all in a days work and nothing gives me more of a smile than giving and receiving the lovely warm cuddles at the end of a long, event filled day.

The laughter, the smiles, the quirky viewpoint, the point of difference, the road of growth and discovery, this is where it’s at. This is why I’m a nanny. Because I love it!

Why are you a nanny? What makes your day spectacular? And what leaves you wilting at the end of the day and questioning why you do the job you do?

Nothing But Nannies Breakfasts

Today I’m really excited to tell you about something I’ve been collaborating on. Together with The Corporate Kid we have developed a project to promote and support other nannies. Because as I’ve already said, being a nanny can be terribly isolating and that it’s important for nannies to connect and support each other.

Recognising that there is a need for nannies across Australia to explore opportunities to grow their professions, we’ve taken the first step. And so the Nothing But Nannies Breakfasts event is born.

the corporate kid and nannyshecando

Nothing But Nannies Breakfasts

Nothing But Nannies Breakfasts is a networking event dedicated purely to nannies, babysitters, au-pairs and other child care workers. The breakfast will be a great way to meet other nannies, make new contacts and have a little fun! Everyone will receive some great information with content catered to empowering you to better yourself as a professional in your chosen career.

Sponsored by new nannying agency, The Corporate Kid, the aim is to build the nanny culture in Australia and to start a dialogue.

If you’re a nanny based in Sydney we want to see you!
We want to talk to you! We want to help you!

The first Nothing But Nannies Breakfasts is scheduled for June 1st, 2014 and you’re invited! Plus, if you’re in Brisbane, you’re invited to the follow-up Nothing But Nannies Breakfasts in Brisbane on June 22nd (with plans for other cities in the works).

[disclaim]Update: Melbourne is scheduled in for July 19th and Adelaide July 20th![/disclaim]

Why are we doing this?  Because if it’s not already oozing through your screens, we’re really passionate about this. There’s big things coming and we want to get you involved. In fact, to launch an exciting new venture coming soon we need YOUR help!

So Sydney and Brisbane, come along and kickstart your Sunday!
